Hot New Pick: The Corner Door

No Comments 14 January 2013

Looking for a cool bar where you can have ridiculously good food? I found just the place. It's the Corner Door on Washington Boulevard in Culver City, which is really the new Restaurant Row thanks to this place along with Waterloo & City and A-Frame. (Although admittedly W&C is kinda hit and miss.) I wasn't expecting too much when I first decided to check it out because, let's be honest, the Corner Door sounds like just another gastropub. But I have no problem admitting I was wrong. This place rocks!

Din Tai Fung is Oh So Fun

1 Comment 06 January 2013

So the other day my fiance and I decided we wanted to get away from the Westside for just a little bit and go somewhere to eat. Somewhere that would be worth drive. Downtown LA? Nah, there all the time. Silver Lake? Uh, don't think I can take seeing another skinny guy in skinny jeans so early in the morning. Need somewhere farther. That's when Din Tai Fung popped into my head. It was time to embark on the 45-minute drive to Arcadia.

Aww, Shucks: Half-Off Oysters & Lobster

No Comments 12 November 2012

So you love oysters and lobster, but aren't such a fan of how much these tasty morsels from the sea usually cost, right? (Especially on the Westside.) Well, good news is here. The Hungry Cat, one of the best places for sustainable seafood in LA, is now offering Half-Off Oyster Mondays and Half-Off Lobster Tuesdays at the new Santa Monica location right off PCH.

Hot Stuff: La Muerte Vive Comes Alive

1 Comment 01 October 2012

Translated as "the dead live," La Muerte Vive is a rock opera-meets-cabaret theatrical extravaganza celebrating the traditions of the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos. This year La Muerte Vive presents "Apocalypto: The Awakening," on Friday, November 2 at the historic and recently restored Palace Theatre in Downtown LA. The show is an explosion of color and culture with giant paper mache puppets, fiery music and sexed-up dancing.

Free Fun: It’s Museum Day

No Comments 24 September 2012

Got art? Now you will. And it won't cost you a thing. On Saturday, September 29, you can enjoy free admission to over 1,400 participating museums and cultural venues around the country thanks to Smithsonian Magazine who sponsors the annual freebie. Unfortunately, not every museum in the greater LA area is participating but consider this an opportunity to visit some of the lesser known, under-appreciated destinations that deserve your attention. Like MOLAA (love this place!), California Science Center (soon to be the home of the Space Shuttle Endeavour!) and the Grammy Museum at LA Live.

Poolside Soirees @ BH Hotel

1 Comment 09 July 2012

So it's Friday night and you're wishing you could hang out poolside somewhere because it's summer and well, this is LA. But you don't want to hang out at just any old pool because well, this is LA. And while you're at it, you'd really like it if you could be transported back in time. Back to a time before you were born. A time when men were gentleman and ladies were, well ... ladies. A time when everyone and everything just seemed more glamorous. Well, your wish may very well be coming true with the new Cointreau Poolside Soirees going on at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Tuesdays @ Tom Bergin’s Tavern

1 Comment 02 July 2012

If you haven't checked out the recently revamped Tom Bergin’s yet, consider doing it on a Tuesday. That's because the longstanding Irish pub on Fairfax (it's been an LA staple since 1936) is now offering a Tuesday at Tom's special starting July 24 and every Tuesday thereafter from noon to midnight. Yes, you can order from the regular menu (which has also been updated), but you may as well not go for broke with the $15 three-course meal.
