Hello, Jello!
We all know that food can inspire us and Los Angeles artist Nouar gives it a bittersweet expression with “Internally Yours,” a mini exhibition by Johsua Petker entitled “Celluloid Constellations.”
The exhibition features three-dimensional sugary confections, gelatin dessert molds and a bright color palette that are seemingly innocuous and tongue-in-cheek at first glance. However, take a second look and the artist’s intent becomes more clear. “For this show, I used food as a visual metaphor to symbolize how dangers are hidden, and how we don’t see them coming until it is too late,” says Nouar.
As she continues, “‘Internally Yours’ represents the idea of confinement, submission and eternity. Sometimes, we find ourselves in situations we don’t want to be in. It feels like the world has swallowed us up whole.” Just ask the poor girl stuck inside that pink gummy bear.
