With their foot-stomping, hip-shaking, rule-breaking swagger, Vaud & the Villains are pure gold when it comes to putting on a good show. The 19-piece, 1930s-style New Orleans band and cabaret troupe conjures up the sultry circus stylings of Moulin Rouge with a horn-y Big Easy sound that lets the good times roll. It’s pretty hard to resist this cast of characters that ranges from Peaches Mahoney, a “leggy dancin’ dame” who isn’t afraid to flaunt what she’s got (often with feathers) to Two Boots, a “bootleggin’ tuba man.” You can check ‘em out all over LA, including shows at Fais Do Do and Sunset Junction.
Wednesday, August 17 @ Ford’s Filling Station, 9531 Culver Blvd, Culver City, CA 90232.
