“What’s a white girl know about tamales?”  I thought the same thing, too. Turns out, quite a lot. La Guera Tamalera, aka Deborah (no relation to Howard) Stern, has been making her famous organic tamales and delivering them to satisfied customers for years, and now you can learn the tricks of her trade when she hosts a tamale-making workshop on Saturday, April 23, from noon-2:30pm at The Cottage, a private venue on the grounds of the Hollywood Bowl.

She developed a recipe especially for the class: a vegan version of the ever popular Blue Corn Jalapeño & Cheese (soooooo good! Trust me, I’ve had a few) using organic non-GMO masa and vegan Daiya “cheese.” Even better: the recipe is gluten-free and can be easily translated to non-vegan for all the omnivores out there. Workshop includes brief lecture, lesson, materials, hands-on tamale-making (take what you make), and a full organic lunch from La Guera’s menu, including organic vegan horchata.
