Over the weekend, I stopped by WP24 at the Ritz Carlton. I hadn’t been back since it first opened in April 2010 and wanted to make sure it was still as good as I remembered. So … did it still sizzle or fizzle?
Good news: the second impression was just as good as the first. Even though I didn’t eat in the main dining room (note: highly recommend if you have major bucks to spend) where a prix-fixe menu is offered in three, four, six, or ten courses, I still enjoyed every bite of the sushi and Chinese small plates in the more laidback lounge.
There’s no black cod broiled with ginseng honey to be had, but you can still get signatures like the Maine lobster and prawn rolls (which look like pretty little presents, wrapped with a ribbon of seaweed), chicken ‘dan dan’ dumplings with crushed peanut sauce (yum!), prawn toast with spicy chili sauce (pictured) and fresh sashimi in the form of albacore, hamachi and whatever else your raw-fish-loving heart desires.
Oh, and as for the drinks–those flow aplenty. Try the cliche-seeming but deliciously surprising (if you like fruity) pomegranate martini and Asian peartini.
