Get Melted: Grilled Cheese Week!

4 Comments 10 April 2011

The countdown to the Grilled Cheese Invitational is on. The big event happens Saturday, April 23 at Los Angeles Center Studios and if last year’s blowout is any indication of how this year’s will fare, it’s going to be out of control! To prepare,  event sponsor Tillamook Cheese has partnered with six Los Angeles and Orange County restaurants that are offering their own grilled cheese melts. Tillamook Grilled Cheese Week runs from April 16-23, so read on to plot out your grilled cheese crawl. (As for the melt in the photo, that’s the Grilled Cheese Truck’s infamous Cheesy Mac & Rib.) Happy eating!

Chef Brandon Boudet sure does get around. In addition to the melt he created for Dominick’s, he’s concocted a cheesy po’ boy at this old-school diner made with Tillamook Medium Cheddar and homemade Creole hot sausage for $9.

This Orange County gastropub is where chef John Cuevas is offering a melt that sounds like a winner. (Mario Batali evidently loves this place.) The smoky $11 creation is made with Tillamook Sharp Cheddar, pickled ramps, smoked bacon, garlic mayo and a fried egg.

There are few things better than a really good grilled cheese sandwich. I haven’t been to Campanile in a long time, but I remember theirs was very tasty! Don’t they have a weekly grilled cheese night still? Thursdays?
