What do live body painting and the US Air Force have in common? Nothing unless it’s the Marpop Weekend Roundup! As long as I’ve been producing and hosting my segments, one of the things I love most is pairing unexpected guests together and showcasing the diversity not just of LA, but the world! And what better way to do that than with two very different sorts of people in uniform …
You won’t believe your eyes when you see the living, breathing works of art at the Body Fine Art Competition on Saturday, May 16 at The Springs in Downtown LA. Thirty of the world’s best body painters will compete for the winning title including renowned artists Avi Rahm, Aimee Stoddard, Alisia Sillman and Stephanie Anderson. Along with spectacular live body painting, there will be live entertainment with bands and DJs, burlesque performances, photography and celebrity judges like KCRW’s Jason Bentley. The public can even volunteer to get body painting done! Tickets are $20-$50.
Just in time to celebrate Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 16, the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West is performing free concerts throughout Southern California. The beloved 50-piece band will play classics like “Battle Hymn of the Republic” as well as present the world premiere of an original composition called “A Legacy of Valor.” Let’s all remember to thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country.
