Happy 2015! With the New Year comes the obligatory resolutions to get fit and eat healthy. And guess what? I’m showing you how to make good on those resos all while having fun!
For one, you should check out the 1,000 Calorie Burn workout at Spectrum Athletic Club. PlyoJam is a high-cardio, follow-along dance fitness class that combines the short, fast and explosive movements of plyometrics (jump training) with fun dance steps that can be modified for all fitness levels. I brought in DJ Matt and our fave instructor Nicole “Cardio Dance Queen” Steen to lead us on a three-minute routine on “Good Day LA.” It definitely worked us out but it was so fun none of us wanted to stop even in 40-degree weather!
I also had the good people from Gadarene Swine in Studio City stop by to share some of their incredible vegetable creations from their hot new spot. Even though the name might conjure up images of pork, it actually has a meat-free menu that focuses on vegetables that will truly excite your taste buds. Chef Phillip Frankland Lee of Scratch Bar fame and his wife/pastry chef Margarita Kallas are taking veggies to a whole new level and preparing them in ways you’ve never seen or imagined. It’s an incredible mix of simple ingredients creatively combined. In other words, it’s edible art that’s not only good for you, but also tastes as good as it looks.
