Looking for some stimulating entertainment? Something that won’t dumb you down yet will still hold your attention? A multisensory experience that is beautiful on the surface yet has an intensely deep message? Then you might want to check out Scarlet Stone, a new production that brings an ancient tale to life with a modern mix of music, dance and animation.

Director, composer and UCSD professor Shahrokh Yadegari–in collaboration with choreographer and lead dancer Shahrokh Moshkin-Ghalam–has reinterpreted ancient Persian mythology to portray the current struggle of the people of Iran, especially women and youth, in their quest for freedom and democracy. In production since the 2009 uprising in Iran, Scarlet Stone will be at UCLA’s Freud Playhouse on December 10 and December 11 and hopes to open up discussion not only for Iranians and those tied to that country, but for anyone who is interested in the current movements in the Middle East in general.
