From CA to MI: Our Annual Cross-Country Road Trips Are Full of Surprises
Going on a yearly cross-country road trip to see my mom-in-law was not something I had ever planned on. But now it has become a favorite tradition for me and my husband.
For most of our professional lives, we had to ration out vacation days and decide between our own trips (like going to Isla Mujeres, Mexico) and seeing his family who live out of state.
But ever since going fully remote in 2020, we’ve made the annual trek from LA to the Detroit suburbs to spend three months with his mom.
Packing up the car and driving nearly 2,300 miles each way can feel like a hassle. It takes days to get there, and it can be exhausting. But it has allowed us to see the country and explore places we wouldn’t have otherwise visited.
More importantly, it’s a chance to spend quality time both as a couple on the road and as a family once we arrive in Michigan.
