The “Secrets of Success” I’ve Learned From My 84-Year-Old Mother-in-Law
For as long as I’ve known her, my mother-in-law Elizabeth has reminded me of “Auntie Mame,” that wonderfully eccentric and eclectic character who was always embarking on new adventures and having fun with friends from all walks of life.
Even at 84, my mom-in-law continues to thrive socially and hasn’t let age or any physical setbacks diminish her zest for life. Here are some of the guiding principles or “secrets of success” from my mother-in-law for enjoying a life well-lived:
Be useful, honorable, and compassionate.
Stay interested and you’ll be interesting.
Embrace opportunities to connect with younger people.
Never lose your sense of humor.
Don’t be afraid to socialize and travel, even if you don’t move as easily as you used to.
