
We Planned a 30-Day Trip to San Sebastian, Spain, But Left After 10 Days
Donostia-San Sebastian, Spain, has long been known as a desired destination for travelers worldwide. It’s home to Concha Beach, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, and multiple Michelin-starred restaurants. (Anthony Bourdain featured this famed gastronomic hub three times on his shows.)
So, it’s not surprising that my husband and I thought it was going to be an amazing month enjoying the sights and tastes of this smaller, seaside alternative to over-touristed Barcelona and Madrid.
But after a few days, we were shocked at how much we didn’t love it.
Despite staying in a great location just a two-minute walk from Concha Beach and near historic Old Town, the area felt a bit too small and touristy.
We walked the promenade multiple times, tried out the tapas and pinxto bars all around, hopped on a tour bus, and even took a day trip to Bilbao, a much larger port city where we visited the Guggenheim museum.
Still, after 10 days, we had to decide: Should we stay in San Sebastian, Spain, or go back to Bordeaux and Paris?

San Sebastián is beautiful, but I understand your point. Sometimes it’s perfect for a short stay, not a whole month. Bordeaux and Paris definitely offer more variety.
