Rock in Fashion: My Night with John Varvatos & KISS
It was a night of rock and fashion at the invite-only book signing party for designer John Varvatos’ awesome new coffee table-style book, John Varvatos: Rock in Fashion. (Seriously, it’s a really cool book.) The action took place at Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills and I spent about 15 minutes in one of the men’s dressing rooms that was turned into a makeshift interview area where I chatted up John, Gene Simmons (who was feeling a bit under the weather, so we greeted each other with air kisses), Paul Stanley and the hilarious photog Mick Rock. I’d worked with the KISS frontmen on “Good Day LA” before, but it was my first time meeting John and I was so glad to find that in addition to being extremely talented, he is such a down-to-earth gentleman. His designs are truly timeless and capture the rock aesthetic so perfectly. “It’s about style, not about fashion,” he said. So I had to ask: “Are you going to design for women any time soon?”
Unfortunately, he said not a chance. Oh well, I’ll settle for the book!
