Eat This: Crossroads Kitchen

It’s been a while since I last visited Crossroads Kitchen on Melrose and good news: this place is still whipping up some seriously delicious food. The menu is totally vegan, or as they like to say, plant-based. There are plenty of fake-meat options (which they make themselves), but I recommend sticking to actual veggies. Didn’t have any celeb sightings this time around even though there were paparazzi waiting outside. (For some reason they didn’t take MY picture!) Definitely one of my fave restaurants in town.

Crossroads artichoke oysters - Photo by Mar YvetteArtichoke oysters with crispy oyster mushrooms, yellow tomato bearnaise and kelp caviar – just as good as I remember. A must-order classic.

Crossroads crab cakes - Photo by Mar Yvette“Crab” cakes made with hearts of palm, Granny Smith apples, heirloom beets and horseradish aioli. Tasty with a shredded consistency and slight sweetness. (FYI: My fave vegan crab cakes can be found at Willie Jane – see the pix here.)

Crossroads spinach salad - Photo by Mar YvetteOMG: This Bloomsdale spinach salad with smoked mushrooms, almond ricotta, crispy garlic and warm black pepper vinaigrette is among my new favorite salads – so smoky and savory and full of texture. So good had to order it twice!

Crossroads flatbread - Photo by Mar YvetteAnother OMG-worthy dish: Pistachio kalamata tapenade flat bread with roasted cauliflower and frisee. The bread was nicely charred and the dressing was spicy and sour at the same time. So good we ordered it twice.

Crossroads tortelloni - Photo by Mar YvetteTortelloni with almond cheese, oven-dried tomatoes, parsley-frisee salad and spinach cream. The pasta was so chewy and tasty – I would’ve filled the pasta just a tad more. But that’s just me.

Crossroads pot pie - Photo by Mar YvetteThe world’s smallest pot pie … at $14! The crust was frickin fabulous – so flaky. The filling was creamy and delish with mushrooms, peas, carrots … but at $14 likely won’t get it again. I mean, seriously. The price is a bit cray.

Crossroads strawberry shortcake - Photo by Mar YvetteOMGGGGGGGG!!!!! Wish I would’ve ordered two (or three) of these. Fresh, bright strawberries with chewy yet cookie-crumblyish shortcake and almond whipped cream. Now THIS is worth the $8 price tag. Doesn’t get better than this.
