Who knew that my earnest attempt to celebrate National Corn on the Cob Day would end up being seeing as some ridiculous faux-liday on The Soup?! Well, I’m glad they found it funny cos it landed me a few seconds of air time on one of my fave TV shows and had me grinning from ear (of corn) to ear!
It was all because I brought in Solita Tacos & Margaritas on June 11 for National Corn on the Cob Day … yes, I love a bizarre holiday! This Baja-style Mexican spot features this sweet summertime vegetable, which is actually considered a grain and a fruit as well. The grilled elote is a whole ear of corn roasted over a wood grill and smothered in butter, chipotle salsa, California chiles, Cotija cheese and sprinkled with green onion. I had it vegan style and I have to say… even without all the cheese and mayo, this stuff is so sweet it didn’t need a thing – yum!!!
I also brought in Cheer Los Angeles, the volunteer cheerleading group who promote spirit, unity and diversity in our community. Since its inception in 2001, Cheer LA has raised over $150,000 for HIV/AIDS charities throughout California. This year at LA Pride, the charitable cheerleaders will be raising money for the Wall-Las Memorias Project. Now that’s something to cheer about!
