It was a big night of glitz and glam during the 2012 Golden Globes. And like any awards show, there were winners and there were losers … on the red carpet. The biggest style trends of the evening were the messy side chignon (love it), neutral tones (big fan) and the mummy mermaid dress (looks so uncomfortable), but the biggest success of the night was the parade of women in the 45+ age range who outshined many of their younger counterparts. Here is my own list of the top 10 best dressed celebs of the 2012 Golden Globes.
Jessica Lange – Best dressed of the night, hands down. The tousled bed head, chic black-on-black dress with an open back (who’s the designer, someone please tell me?!), barely-there makeup (and no Botox!), not to mention totally-deserved win for “American Horror Story,” make this 62-year-old my absolute fave.
Kate Winslet – She’s come a long way since her Titanic days and it’s all adding up for Kate Winslet. Her silk black and white Jenny Packham gown with the sexy keyhole detail + gold tassel earrings + soft chignon + flawless makeup with peachy tones = Perfection. So simple yet so pretty.
Salma Hayek – I think you either loved this look or hated it. I fall into the former camp. Absolutely gorgeous hair, stunning face (can you believe she’s 45?!!) and the glitzy geometrically-patterned metallic Gucci gown added just the right amount of interest and dazzle without being overwhelming. Latina love, baby. I’m all about it.
Emma Stone – The youngest one on my list, Emma Stone got it right with this plum and cherry color combo. The flowy Lanvin dress would’ve been elegant enough without the eagle belt, but that unexpected piece of hardware ended up giving it a fun, edgy and younger twist. Add her smoky eyes and sexy side sweep chignon and it’s a look I would rock if I could.
Laura Dern – This belted emerald-hued Andrew Gn gown worked seamlessly on Dern’s long, sleek frame. All she needed was a little more lip color for a perfect score. What I also love about the dress is that the color is great for blondes, brunettes and redheads alike.
Helen Mirren-This grand dame of style showed all the young ones how to do it with class in her navy-colored Badgley Mischka gown, not-too-sleek updo and gorgeous makeup. At first I thought the embellished skirt with the thick sparkly belt was too much, but if there was one person to make it work, it was Mirren. Smashing.
Felicity Huffman – Not only did this Desperate Housewife and her hubby steal the show with their funny onstage song, but her stunning shimmery nude-toned strapless dress was a major attention grabber. Her sexy side chignon (surprise!) and makeup were the perfect finishing touch.
Jane Fonda – Whoa, Jane! When she walked out onto the stage she owned it. With her signature spiky ‘do and form-fitting black & gold dress (clearly working out works), the 74-year old looked better than most girls a third her age.
Tilda Swinton– What can I say? TS is a fashionista’s fashionista and a big part of her appeal is that only she can pull off what she pulls off. The pompadour was fierce, the matte makeup (or should I say, make-down) was chic, and that periwinkle Haider Ackermann suit-dress? Probably the most feminine thing we’ve seen her in. Ever.
Uggie the Doggie – The only male to make my list, Uggie from “The Artist” wins thanks to his flawless hair (which, unlike most red carpeters, is 100% natural), great personality and minimalist approach to fashion. (A bow tie collar, that’s it.)

Could not agree with you more! But I also loved Jessica Alba’s lavendar dress which looked so perfect on her and also Natalie Portman except for that poof on the side which made her look like a Kardashain!!!!!! Also Nicole Kidman was amazing!!!!!
