Rock ‘n’ Read: LA Zine Fest

What do you get when you put one of LA’s best indie bookstores together with some of the coolest, most obscure zines* on the planet? (Well, aside from a shizstorm of Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt lookalikes.) The LA Zine Fest, of course! Going on Sunday, February 19 on the second floor of The Last Bookstore in Downtown LA, this celebration of the DIY publishing scene is your chance to meet, greet and read zines from graphic artists, painters, illustrators, poets, journalists, musicians and everyone in between. In addition to all the printed action, there will be guest speakers, workshops and panels (psst … Henry Rollins is a name that’s popping up on the event’s official website with the following caveat: We don’t really know what’s going to happen, but we’re excited to find out), live silk-screening on the main floor and an afterparty hosted by LA Record, the city’s definitive music mag.

*In the odd chance you didn’t already know what a zine is, it’s a small homemade magazine (hence the ‘zine’ part) or booklet that can cover any topic imaginable. If I were to do my own zine, it would probably be the Tao of Three’s Company, Tiny Food or Cat Non-Fancy. And yours?

Sunday, February 19, 11am-5pm @ The Last Bookstore, 453 South Spring Street  Los Angeles, CA 90013. Free admission for event and afterparty.
