Oscar Parties For Regular People

Didn’t get the invite to all those fancy Oscar parties going on around town? So what. Just because you haven’t made the A-list (yet) doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a little glitz and glam on Hollywood’s biggest night. Whether you want to toast the Oscars with a bunch of hobbits or feel like living out your own A-list fantasy by strutting the red carpet, check out these fun Academy Awards celebrations for all the little people.

Hollywood Roosevelt
Where better to enjoy the Oscars than at the site of the very first Academy Awards ceremony in 1929? The legendary Hollywood Roosevelt will host a viewing dinner and party starting at 5pm on Oscar Sunday with a three-course menu for $99. The event will be shown on big plasma screens around the main dining room, which will be transformed into a viewing lounge. An a la carte menu is also available in the main lobby area where the ceremony will be screened on a 15-foot display. Call 323-769-8888 to make a reservation.

APLA Party @ The Abbey –
AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) is holding its 12th Annual Oscar Viewing Party at the Abbey, hosted by Becca Tobin from “Glee” and Pauley Perrette of “NCIS.” Yes, it’s a pricey affair (tix start at $500), but it goes to a great cause and the night includes dinner, drinks and black-tie fun. APLA is also having a much more casual (translation = cheaper) Oscar viewing party right next door at Here Lounge. The event promises no tuxes, lots of cocktails and gays everywhere! Catch @ Casa Del Mar –
If you’re gonna watch the Oscars, you may as well do it by the beach. Hotel Casa del Mar will host a live viewing party on Sunday from 4pm to 9pm. Cocktails, delicious food from the new Lobby Lounge menu and complimentary popcorn will be served during the show and photographers will be onsite to take your photo on the red carpet. You’ll also get to enjoy a trivia contest where the person who has the most correct predictions of Oscar winners will win dinner for two at Catch Restaurant. Listen up, hobbits. If you’re one of those Trekkie-style “Lord of the Rings” fanatics then you’ve found your ultimate Oscar party. The annual One Expected Party is taking place at the Hollywood American Legion hall just blocks from where the actual awards show is taking place. Celebrate alongside your closest Tolkien friends and get ready for almost 10 hours (!) of entertainment and fellowship.  Aside from watching the Academy Awards, the festivities include a full bar, afternoon tea finger food buffet (3:30pm-5:30pm), Hobbit Feast Dinner buffet (8:30pm-10:30pm), auctions, games, roving entertainers and live performances by several acts including Billy Boyd (aka Pippin) and his band Beecake. Ah, the precioussssss…

For added fun, guests will be given an Oscar ballot to fill out upon arrival. The person who gets the most correct winners on their ballot will receive a dinner for two valued at $250.
